In response to multiple requests for children’s programming, ZICA began creating productions geared specifically towards a new and much younger audience. In March of 2011, ZICA produced Zirkus Fantazmo which ran for 9 performances and had over 2,000 audience members ranging from infants to grandparents. The success of Zirkus Fantazmo led to the music and circus series known as Big Top Rock.
For Big Top Rock, ZICA forged a partnership with Kindiependent. Kindiependent is a collective of Seattle bands who are passionate about cultivating a family music scene in the Pacific Northwest. Teatro ZinZanni complemented the music of these local Seattle musicians with a circus story, told and performed by cast members from Teatro ZinZanni’s evening show as well as up and coming young circus performers who were alumni of ZICA’s Camp ZinZanni. ZICA’s 3rd production for families and children In Tents opened on May 5th, 2012. In Tents was a very unique collaboration between the kindiependent rockers Recess Monkey and Teatro ZinZanni featuring the band, Teatro ZinZanni cast members and the circus stars of tomorrow.
